Thinking of moving from nc
Hi everyone. I'm new to this;so please bare with me. I'm thinking of moving from nc and I want to move to a state/city that I don't have to drive over 6/7 hours to come back home and visit my family. Now, I was thinking about va, ga, or sc. I really don't know what areas in these states would be suitable to live in and raise my 3 girls in, (12,10, &2). I know many of you would say Atlanta of course for ga. I don't really don't want to be in the city nor too deep in the country. I'm basically trying to start fresh with new, good paying job, home and new surroundings. I want to live and raise my kids in a quiet neighborhood, with good school systems, low crime rate, (prefer no crime, but where would I be able to find that place LOL), good, friendly, and welcoming people. Someone please give me some insight on where to relocate my family and please remember I have 3 girls. I'm wrecking my brain trying to figure out which direction to go.

Is your family in NC as well? Would you consider another city in NC, or do you want out of that state entirely?

I know I get accused of "selling" something.... BUT Va. Beach has some great, top rated schools. and terrrific gifted program. and terrific academy programs in the high school years. We are very lucky. We have great beaches, very moderate temp's, and a fairly easy lifestyle. I will say, our price of housing can be a little higher than NC, so you will need to maybe give us a little more information on what you do, and what price range home you would be looking to rent or buy... it may help us.

I am a Hampton Roads native, and have also lived in the GA and NC. Depending on where you are in NC, I would stay in NC.
If you have lost your job and need to move to find to work, Hampton Roads might not be bad if you work for the federal government or a military contractor--the pay might be ok. I find that housing prices are high in the area compared to NC and GA and jobs (in general) don't pay as much as GA.
Also find that most places in NC have a lower crime rate--you would need to compare that for yourself at one of the city comparison sites. The best (and fastest) way to Hampton Roads is via route 58, from I-95, if you are in central or eastern NC. It is not a bad trip--but the speed limit is 55 and it is enforced. Takes about 3.5 hours from Raleigh/Durham. Public transport in Hampton Roads is not that great, so there is a lot of traffic and accidents, it seems to me.
