Question Drive In Movie in Hampton Roads

Is there ample interest to build a Drive In Movie in Hampton Roads that would be less than 45 minutes travel from most anywhere in our community?

A drive in movie of today wouldn't be as feasible as it was back then. Now you have big SUVs, that would block the view of smaller cars that are in the back. And with gas prices now being so high, I don't think many people want to leave their cars idling during the whole movie, and let's not forget the environmental impact the idling cars would contribute to the world.

It just wouldn't be like it was back in the day. There could be gang related operations going on, arguments, shootings, and just end up in time as an unsafe environment to bring a family.
I think a small outdoor theater similar to what Busch Gardens has would be nice, but the amphitheaters pretty much take that place.

I couldnt leave my car running and I would need to for the kids. Sorry, as good of an idea as it is and it is a good one! I don't think it would work just because of the idling car issue and where we live, it's either too hot or too cold.

You know we just went to the mountains and stayed in a cabin at Hungry Mother State Park @ Marion VA about 80 miles west of Blacksburg. There was a fairly new drive in theater about a mile from the park. Our two boys had never been to a drive in.. Well it got down to 50 degrees that night ( middle of August) Needless to say the boys loved the experience. Reminded me of our visits to Shore Drive Inn in growing up in VA Beach in the 60's/70's.
Not sure if you could justify the cost of development if you were to replicate it in Hampton Roads..

As a long time resident of Va Bch I can remember the time when we had several drive-in movie locations around the area. I spent many a night at the old "Surf and Sand" drive-in .....I think that is what it was called..I know we had one in the area named that...been to many years to remember..maybe it was called the Twin .....I know it had two screens.......anyway it was located close to what is now Independence Blvd and Baxter Road. I dont even want to start with the stories I could tell you about what happened at that place LOL......But those were different times and a different generation.
I dont think with the issues that todays generation is facing that a Drive-in would be in the best interest.

When we first moved here there used to be a drive inn movie in York county on route 17 and Victory blvd. They built a new walmart there about...8 years ago. The little road across from the Walmart entrance is still called Theater Road.

There is still a working drive inn down in the Tampa bay area of Florida. I've been wanting to take my kids there so they could see what it was like. Not sure if they'd enjoy it or not. When I was a kid we'd take blankets and pillows and put them on the ground next to the car for the kids to sit out and watch the movie. We never left the car idleing! If it was winter we bundled up, if it was summer we sweated. lol.
