What to do with old childrens' books?
My son has a TON of old books that he no longer needs. They are nice hardbound volumes, quite expensive when new. I don't want to throw them to the curb, or just give them to one family that might throw out what doesn't appeal to them. What is the best way to give these fine books a second life?

THere's plenty of thrift stores all over the Hampton Roads area that would
gladly take them off your hands. Why not try one.. CHKD is a great one.
I drop of things there all the time.

I'm sure child care centers would love them. They were thrilled with books and toys we passed on to them.

A very good non-profit to promote reading and literacy for disadvantaged children in Hampton Roads is called Reach, and located at 2200 Colonial Ave Suite 16 Norfolk. Phone is 627-4722. They gladly take gently used children's books from preschool thru highschool age. For more information visit them at Traditional Read Aloud Program

Chessiemom, I donate my sons books that he is done with to his elementary school. The teachers usually like to have books in their classrooms for the kids, and if they are in really good shape, they can give them as rewards for meeting certain goals. Besides the classroom teachers, also the reading specialist in the school.

You could also find a bookstore that sells old books or consigns old books. I know here in Williamsburg we have one or two.
