Default Considering job in Norfolk

So I'm considering a job offer from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. I'm a 21 yr old female from a medium sized college town in Michigan. I was wondering what its like in this area for younger people. Bars, Clubs, what regions are safe to live in (I took an apartment blindly in upstate NY and feared for my life at night). Its my first real job so I'll have some money for a decent place and some recreation.

One thing nice about the Hampton Roads area, is that you don't have to live in the city you work in. Though some complain about traffic and communiting, it's advantageous to live in one city and work in another. Since you are considering a job at Norfolk Naval Shipyard, that is located in Portsmouth, it's easy to live in any city. The cities all link together.

Yep, very true, many people work in one city and live in another, which will be nice cause you probably don't want to live in Portsmouth. As far as regions, Chesapeake or Virginia Beach would be your best bet. This area is crawling with military guys so as a 21 year old female that is a huge advantage. The nightlife here is really nothing special for a city this size, we have the typical bars/clubs that any other city has so in regards to that it is really just what you make of it. Some of the funnest bars are the dives anyway. Personally, I don't think this area is great for young people just starting out. Read through the posts and you will get a feel for the positives and negatives, but I do remember seeing an article about how Hampton Roads was rated very low for recent graduates, probably cause it is so expensive here. Definitely take a trip here though and see for yourself.

This is very true, though summertime seems to be the "spring" for the younger folks. If you like the beach, you can bet that on the weekends, they are down there playing volleyball. Chicks Beach is a "locals" favorite and the drive to Sandbridge beach isn't bad either.
Waterside on Friday nites has free bands starting around 5ish in the summer. With the bars and pubs there, there are alot of the younger crowds.

Default Safe Apartment available!

I am also a 21 year old female. I have lived in an apartment complex for a year and a half that has been safe and in the Virginia Beach Area. I am having to move to Nashville with my recording career, as soon as I can find a renter. If you would like to talk to me further, I am trying to find someone to sublet my apartment thru May. It is short term but you have options to stay or time to find something you like better. I can give you more details and my website so that you can see and know who you are talking to if you are interested in the apartment. e-mail: taylor331@sbcglobal.net Re: VB apt
