Default things to do in norfolk/hampton roads?

Im pretty new to norfolk/hampton roads and my in laws are coming to visit for a week. So my question is what are some local things that are interesting and/or unique to do around here? My mother in law likes antiques and my father in law used to be in the navy in his younger years. They will also be bringing their 7 year old grandson. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!

Well, you could take them to Nauticus, in Norfolk. I'm not sure how it is now, as I haven't been there in a few years but we always enjoyed it and there seemed to be a lot to do there.

Olde Towne Portsmouth. Take the ferry over, then head to the Children's Museum and there are antique shops too. Also the Virginia Sports museum is a great place - all this in Olde Towne. Restaurants too.

Take yourself over to the bookstore, go to the travel section and look for "The Insider's Guide to Virginia Beach." Look for the most recent edition.
The Insiders' Guide | Travel Guide Books to the Best Places.
The Insider's Guide series of book have a tremendous amount of information about different cities including the following.......

1. Recreation (Parks, Nightlife, Sports, day trips, kids stuff, etc....)
2. Neighborhoods
3. History
4. Fine dining
5. Local favorites
6. Hotels, motels, Bed and Breakfasts
7. Festivals
8. Education

The list goes on and on. Buy the book for $20 and you will have a valuable resourse at your fingertips to help you learn about your new city. I bought this book when I moved to Virginia Beach and it was a tremendous help in finding things to do and places to go. You will have loads of ideas for things to do.

My personal favorites were........
"Nauticus" and Battleship Wisconsin in downtown Norfolk
Nauticus
The Mariners Museum in Newport News (awesome!!!) The Mariners' Museum ~ Newport News, Virginia
The Virginia Aqarium and Marine Science Museum in Virginia Beach
Official Virginia Aquarium Web Site
The Virginia Beach Boardwalk at the oceanfront has a few nice restaurants and nightclubs.
Colonial Williamsburg in Williamsburg
Colonial Williamsburg Official Site
Prime Outlet Mall in Williamsburg
Prime Outlets – Williamsburg, Outlet Mall near Hampton Roads/Williamsburg Area | 65% Savings on Designer Brands

Here are the Calendar of Events sites that I used for upcoming festivals, sports events, marathons, concerts, etc.....

BTW, The Insiders Guide to Virginia Beach covers most of the Hampton Roads area, not just VA Beach.
