Looking for a great family seafood restaurant for family coming into town. Live in Virginia Beach, but would be willing to travel to other Hampton Road area for really GREAT food & family atmosphere. Thanks.

I had someone recommend Croakers! to me in Va Beach but I haven't been there yet. I don't know what the atmosphere is like or anything.

Croakers is awesome! It has a Jimmy Buffet atmosphere and the food is worth the time and money. It opens at 5pm daily and is family owned.
There is also a family owned restaurant that has good seafood and that's Surf Riders. There are three owned by the family. One at Taylor's Landing just past gate one of Little Creek Amphib. Base, One on Newtown Road near Patient First and one at Cyrpress on Diamond Springs and Weslyan shopping center.
They are both reasonably priced places to take a family.

Dockside Inn off of Shore Drive is my favorite. The Lynnhaven Fish House is usually pretty good too, but a bit pricey. Most of the restaurants in the Shore Drive/Lesner Bridge area should be okay.

We went to Lynnhaven Fish House in August and I wasn't real happy with the food. Hot Tuna is over-rated as well. If you like your basic fish & chips as well as other great menu items, Smokey Bones has good fish and salmon. I'm not a bar-b-que rib person, but my BH says they are very good.

I've heard that before about Lynnhaven Fish House. I enjoyed what I ate, but I'd go someplace else first. It just seems like it's become one of those "you have to go there if you're in town" kinda places. I still need to go to Croakers and try that catfish you've been talking about. Maybe tonight.

Chicks is good and good atmosphere. Its been a while since I last went to Croakers but remember thinking it was good. Surf Rider is Hampton is really good too. One Fish Two Fish is a little more fancy but fun seafood menu and great atmosphere.

Chicks is now Hells Kitchen and I was a bit sad when they changed hands. Their food was really good and we'd stop in before our day at the beach and have breakfast. I just love that area and one of the doctors that works with my bh lives there. I would have loved to buy one of the older homes on the beach, but there weren't any for sale when we were buying in 05. It's such a quaint little area.
Maybe we'll check out HK this weekend and see what they are like. I've heard good things, but my seafood senses have to check it out.
I'm heading to Hawaii on Monday. There is a great place in the hotel I stay at that has wonderful Mahi Mahi. From there I will travel to Japan and I'm sure my taste buds will be overwhelmed with the wonders of their fishes!
