green..BUT----it wasn't for me...

I am looking to relocate in a few years...I am looking at either Hampton Roads or Nashville--perhaps
Toronto,Canada..

Native of the Bay Area in California..looking for a change.....
I'm not a fan of CA. I travel there too much and it is way too crowded and way too fast for me. NC on the eastern area is not "IN" yet! Most people our age are buying up the land, just so it doesn't become that way.

Erma,

The Bay Area has changed IMMENSELY since when I grew up...I am 40 and it was totally different--everywhere is different then it was then....my Parents and Siblings are here, if I wasn't
raised her or had immediate family here...I wouldn't still be here...

I don't like Southen California--except for South Pasadena....it wasn't always so crowded but
now that is how it is....

Erma--forgot to ask how are things for Single People in the Hampton Roads area? I know you are married, but I like your input on posts, just wondering how
they are perceived there...

I work, go to church, like concerts and cultural events....pretty low key...would like to get married one day...I like asking married folks..cause I know they will tell the
truth!!!!!!!!!!!

Erma,

I haven't been to the Eastern Part of NC..I would like to visit the coastal area--

My Godmother lives in the Charlotte Area....she was trying to talk me into moving there....it is
nice to visit...but it isn't me....

I like the fact that Hampton Roads has water--being from the Bay Area...I am used to at least seeing some SMILE

That's the nice part..the east runs all along the ocean with little bays and lakes coming off of it.

It will be many years before HR becomes nearly as congested and populated as Nova. Yes, the area has changed tremendously in the last 20 years but Nova has changed even more in the last 20. And traffic here is a breeze compared to Nova in most respects.

Very transient. I know that NOVA is more government, while Hampton Roads is more military. But Hampton Roads 20 years ago was soo different than it is now. I feel like Hampton Roads is just like NOVA.

Yeah, NOVA with a third of the income, and half the housing prices.

What is up with the love affair that Northern Virginians have with sprawl, anyways? I'm VERY unhappy with everything I've seen thus far outside of Arlington/Alexandria in NoVA as I plan my impending relocation, yet very few members on that forum seem to be concerned that the entire northern 1/3 of the Old Dominion State is being devoured by ugly tract housing, big-box stores, "lifestyle centers", congested freeways, etc. I always thought Virginia was a "forward-thinking" state. Obviously if they haven't begun reinvesting in core cities on a large-scale basis then you're not exactly projecting such an image to the rest of the nation. Since when is living in a sterile subdivision named for a natural feature that was destroyed to make way for your tract house considered the "American Dream?"

Which part of Virginia is "forward thinking"? Most of it is backwoods rural lost in 1940's mentality, and everything south of that "northern 1/3" is mirred in a hodge podge of racisim, dependence on tiny business, lack of regional cooperation, and anti intellectualism.
