N. Suffolk and Smithfield (Virginia Beach, Norfolk: oceanfront, house, living)

We're moving to the area this summer and I'll be working out of Chesapeake, VA. I keep flip flopping on where I want to live and have been told to look at N. Suffolk and Smithfield. From my understanding this area is a bit country, which I don't mind at all. My only concern is my wife is a SAHM and I want to ensure my wife has people to meet and things to do. So I'm wondering how the "new" mom social life is in these areas? Are there any play groups or mommy groups in these areas?

Hello YoJoe-I am a stay at home mom as well, and we live in North Suffolk. It is somewhat country, but it is really growing. We used to live in Va Beach-and we really do like this area-we certainly got a better house for less money! Upon moving here, I joined some local moms groups and they have been great and also have done some local classes such as Gymboree and Little Gym and Kindermusik. Also, there are some mommy and me groups that meet locally as well. Check out the mommy and me website and meetup.com for local mom groups in Suffolk.

No problem-the truth is that North Suffolk is not really all that "country". I can get to downtown Norfolk in 15 minutes and the oceanfront in about 45 minutes. But the nice thing is there is plenty to do in the North Suffolk/Chesapeake/Portsmouth area that we don't go to Norfolk very often at all.

People from Norfolk or Virginia Beach that don't ever come out this way think all of Suffolk is the same but the reality is that Northern Suffolk is not much different then living suburban Virginia Beach.
