from a real hampton native. it's a middle-class town with some rough parts and with some nice parts. the homes there are cheap compared to VA Beach and Norfolk. it ain't the safest or the most dangerous place in HR. the schools are okay but not spectactular. all in all, a decent place to call home. hometown to some famous folks like allen iverson.

Loved being stationed at Langley AFB in Hampton back in the '80s! (Also has NASA Langley Reasearch Center on the other side of the base)

used to be decent - not so much now. It has gone downhill significantly in the recent years. Very few areas safe for young families, the schools are not improving and the traffic an issue. Iverson is no one to brag about - his behavior years ago when he was in HS was deplorable. A town can not and should be judged by what famous person(s) were once residents. Ella Fitzgerald is fabulous - NN is not.

20 years ago Hampton was a nice town with a charming little beach.
