The RUMOR (this is just a rumor from a friend) is that Norfolk Southern had some top exec who's daughter wanted to go to Virginia Wesleyan college. That was why the corporate headquarters is here. I guess their main operations are in Atlanta. IT and other stuff is all done out of Roanoke, VA. He made some comment that once the older guys retire he wouldn't be surprised if they moved? Another friend worked there, and they were so cheap they had him 1099. Real young and he thought it was fun, but I think they paid him like $22K 1099'ed to do all the IT work for a division. Pretty sad. Said they couldn't make him an employee cause the shareholders didn't like more employees. I'm glad he quit.
