Looking for 2 bdrm apt under $900- at least 1,000 sq feet or more in great neck, ocean front, or town center area, or anywhere else you may suggest that is not ghetto or falling apart and crime ridden (no ocean view suggestions..lol). Can be an apartment or townhouse or condo...

There were others too. Most of the places on craigslist in that price range were Norfolk and Newport News though.

Good luck! There might be more negotiating room now that vacancies are increasing. Norfolk is getting an epic ton of high end apartments, and it's my prediction they won't be able to fill them at the asking rents.

Craigslist has a lot of good listings. You can also check out Chick's Beach. They sometimes have some good deals on apartments there. You could also look in the Green Run area along Independence Blvd. and Holland Rd. IMO, the apartments along Rosemont Rd. and Lynnhaven Pkwy are kinds sketchy.

No where is really "safe". if somebody wants to shoot you in the face for no apparent reason at all, they're going to regardless if the area is "safe".

If you just use common sense and not do stupid things no where in Virginia Beach is downright horrible.
