That Kung Pao website is a joke, seriously do they think China is still in the middle of the Culture Revolution. I'm sure it's tongue in cheek humor, but I bet it also plays on a lot of people's assumptions of what China is really like. Anyway, I'm looking forward to it, finally a city with some variety in radio stations (though I usually just plug my ipod in and forget the radio). Is there a strong NPR station in the area by the way, I did miss that over here.

I have to believe that it is a joke. I could understand (and frankly would welcome!) the format if it was international music. But strictly Chinese? In Hampton Roads? No way is there a market.

I TOLD you. It was a stunt. Pay attention next time.
It's over...they just do this when they switch formats...gets them some attention. That's all.

Well, guys, the Kung Pao fest is over. Welcome to 100.5 Hampton Roads' Hottest Hits - a collection of random stuff *sigh* Sadly, the Kung Pao radio was just a joke..
Which, I'm still under the impression that the whole format change(s) are to get people to listen to radio again. However, there are no good rock stations in Hampton Roads. There's 96X, FM99, and MaxFM 100.5 - all of which play the same overdone songs by the same overdone artists. DC101 just completely kicks all of their hindtails at the same time with the variety of music that I've heard on it.
The only thing I listen to on the radio around here would be Tommy and Rumble, because they are a great morning show. I used to listen to FM99 once in a while, but at the last management change, there was a shift in what was played... and I can't listen to it anymore. The repetition of certain "hot songs" just kills it for me.
I'll happily take my 10,000+ hours of no-repetition music from my Zune over radio in Hampton Roads. (If anyone wants to listen in, I cast on 97.7 in my car - but you can only pick it up if you are within one car length in any direction.)

Internet killed the Video Star
Video Star killed the Radio Star
FWIW, I have a website that streams police fire/ems/rescue and other stuff to the internet. It's all low bitrate stuff, but recently I've noticed more people tuning in over cell networks. It won't be long before you can stream internet feeds to mobile devices fast enough to be able to rock internet radio in the car.

No, it's about making money to survive.
If the you kinds listen to their station and fill out the arbitron books, then they stay in business or at least get paid for ads.
The one exception is talk.
Might as well move the talk stations to FM.
Broadcast radio is dead anyways. Who listens to the radio?
Hampton Roads has more popular music station than most other regions as it is.
