Relocating my family and business.
Hello,i hope all is well.I plan to move to VB from upstate NY in the end of June early July. My family and i came to visit VB a week ago to explore the area in hopes to relocate. We loved it! Since, i have been on the net everyday getting as much info as i can. All info here very helpful by the way. I am moving to Norfolk because rental properties are affforable for me. I've read the mixed reviews about Norflok and i am not concerned. I do have concerns about relocating my business. I own a small cleaning service (Spot-it-all cleaning),and i am looking for advice on where to advertise my business. Here i run in a small circuliar called the advertiser. It is inexspensive, but generates alot of business. Anyone know of something like it in VB,or close by? I am willing to travel up to 50 miles for work. Thanks in advance!

I hope you have been informed about personal property tax, business license, business equipment tax. These were shocks to me when I moved here from NJ. I think the have a tax on your soul comming soon.
Good luck!

There are, but if the business is reputable, it will do well. There are too many inconsistent businesses out there and just a handful of those that run a good business. There are many maid service type businesses that sub out their work to other companies. You just don't know that unless you ask.

You are so right! That is why i have so many long term customer today. Cleaning in detail is a skill not everyone has, but if you do you'll always do well.

Word of mouth is always the best. Sign up for meetup.com and their local businesses meetings that always work towards networking.

Meetup.com local business stuff seemed to mostly be black business groups.
There are some of those print publications that come in the mail every week. Value Coupons or something, and some other huge pile of glossy stuff. My apartment building has a trash can near the mailboxes, it's where they all end up.
As far as conventional print, Landmark owns most of the publications in the area. There are some exceptions. It used to be that they'd quote like $900 for a print ad, and expected around $100K for each ad campaign... but now that the paper is dying they've let go of a bunch of the greed. The old rates for the now-deceased Link were pretty reasonable IMHO.
Richmond had way more indy publications when I was looking to advertise.
