Default Acupuncturist defends career day demonstration

From the www.wktr.com website:
----------------------------------------------------
"The acupuncturist who stuck children with needles at Yorktown Elementary is defending herself, speaking only with Newchannel 3's Barbara Ciara. She says she was encouraged to do it."

Bridgett, who asked that Newchannel 3 not use her last name, explained what she does for a living to a group of third graders at Yorktown Elementary earlier this week. The parents were told that 35 of the students were punctured with needles during her career day demonstration. Bridgett says that what parents were told was "probably inflammatory and scary" going on to say that is not how it happened.

Bridget says the school official who notified parents about the acupuncture demonstration wasn't there to see it. She says that she offered to do a demonstration of a scalp acupoint and everyone was thrilled. Bridgett did that demonstration on the teacher who she says then asked her to include the children. "I was mislead," Bridgett says, "by the enthusiasm of the class and didn't use good judgment."

What's more, four Yorktown Elementary teachers oversaw the procedures, none of them reporting it to parents or top administrators. "It is ridiculous to me," Zabicki told Newschannel 3's Dan Tordjman, "that no one thought there was something wrong with what they were doing."
------------------------------------------------------

Sue! Sue!! Sue!!! (The modern American war cry). No harm was done to your precious little snowflakes. If I were one of the students, I'd be the first in line to check it out. I mean, a break from Tolerance Ed. and Modern American History Revisionism class to actually do something harmless and cool? When I was in elementary, a doctor brought in human organs donated for science and we all donned gloves and checked them out [respectfully, of course]. No harm done.

There are far worse dangers to your children, like the moral collapse of America [already in progress]. So enough with the wussification, already.

Default I have to agree....there was no harm done here.

Is this really a big deal in the Yorktown community? We are getting ready to move there and hope this is not indicative of the community thought.

Unhappy Really About This. . .

Lawyer's are everywhere looking for cases. People need to understand how they've so influenced our culture. Anyone who appears to be the slightest off the mark legally is a ripe target.

Here's the way it will go. The alleged victims of this crime will be contacted by their local attorney after it is advertised in the media. The attorney will weigh how much money he/she can make in the case. If it's substantial, they will persuade their potential clients to come into their office to discuss their victimization.

If it weren't for attorneys, this wouldn't be an issue. I guarantee it.

It's not that big of a deal, but the acupuncturist should have known better. Like Cheryl said, lawyers are everywhere, and everybody knows it.

Here's a few great helpful sites about lawsuit abuse. Faces of Lawsuit Abuse.org

Institute for Legal Reform (ILR)

You have to be on your guard because attorneys are a lot like sharks in the water looking for blood!

Sorry, but I would be really mad if this did this to my kid. There are too many diseases you can get from needles. There isn't much information here, but I am hoping that the acupuncturist was at least smart enough to use different needles for each child and that they were sterilized.

Given that sterilized needles are the norm in acupuncture treatment and that this was a professional acupuncturist, I would assume that unless presented evidence otherwise. I would not get worked up over that or worried about diseases from the needles.

The only problem I see in this activity was that it amounts to medical treatment without the consent of the guardian. That is where the money will come from in the frivolous lawsuits that will be popping up.
