Smile Would You Move to Newport News

I believe you would be a lot better off living in Hampton which is right at Newport News. It is a much better place and has a beach, Historic Fort Monroe, etc. You should give it a lot of thought.

Are there nice places within Newport News to raise a family (we have three young kids and homeschool, so schools are not really relevant)? If not, are there nice areas near NN (less than a 30 minute commute)?

If you didn't already live there, would you move to Newport News?

Thanks so much!

You may also want to consider Poquoson. Poquoson isn't much further than Yorktown, so depending on where his job is in NN, it may not be a far commute either. I work in Newport News and although there are some tough sections, there are many nice areas to live in there as well. Hilton is quaint and the homes really vary in price range in that neighborhood, so I wouldn't discount it. There is also a very lovely neighborhood behind and beside the Mariner's Museum which is quiet and you'd have access to the Noland Trail (a 5 mile trail around the museum - I love to walk part of it during my lunch break).

Sorry, I didn't read all the posts when I suggested Poquoson and just noticed that it was mentioned by others. My supervisor lives in Poquoson and loves it, but she did have flooding problems once after Isabelle, so that is something to consider.
