Any country living within 30-40 min. of norfolk navy base? (Chesapeake: wood floors, for sale)

My husband will possibly be taking a chaplaincy position at the navy base in Norfolk. We are a homeschool family with 5 children and are looking for country living with small acreage(2-5 acres). Farmhouses with wraparound porches/porch swings, etc. Large 5 bdrms + with gourmet kitchen, lots of molding, wood floors, newer, clean. Colonial, Victorian okay. Second best is neighborgood family friendly with ameneties and parks etc. Any suggestions as to where to look? Is any of this possible? Thanks!

smithfield, suffolk, isle of wight county. that area is within 30 minutes of NSN and you'll find lots and lots of "country". Plenty of old farm houses. i'm not sure what's for sale at the moment, but i love driving through that area.

I think there are some areas in Chesapeake like that too. I can't remember where but you just have to go straight out princess anne road and keep going over a water way and after that it is country out there- fields, farmland, just like you want.

Where are you moving from and how much are you looking to spend? To find something that meets your criteria in Chesapeake, you are probably looking at $500K+. This area is pretty expensive and while there are country homes, there are not that many that are reasonably priced. I would love to move to a similiar type of home so let me know what you find .
