Default Suffolk, Chesapeake, or Portsmith

I have been offered a teaching position at Kings Fork High ( in Suffolk). I am a young professional in his mid 20's and would want to relocate to a place with a fair amount of good people in similar situtations as me ( young, no kids from a mid size city). I do not want to commute more than 30 minutes or so to and from work, and cannot afford to move into a high rent district. Is there any places that you would recommend to me, or should I decline the position and continue on my search. The last thing I want to do is move somewhere and be miserable. I am planning on checking out the area in a few weeks, and would like some assistance on searching for apartments that would be sensible for me ( i. e. near resturants, shopping areas, grocery stores, entertainment places, etc)
Thanks in advance for your time!

North Suffolk (Harbour View) area. You will be close to work, DT Norfolk/Ghent area, and a quick drive to the peninsula (DT Hampton and City Center in Newport News). The only place you would be further away from would be Virginia Beach and the Oceanfront
