Arrow New to the area and looking for a few friends

I am actually writing this on behalf of my Dad. He lost his wife (my mom) and his father (my grandfather) in a short period of time. Since then he moved here. He doesn't know anyone and since I am in the military I don't know anyone around his age. He enjoys eating out, going to movies and the beach is his favorite thing to do on the weekends. If anyone (male or female) would like to make a new friend please contact me on here. In the picture is my dad, brother and hubby...Thanks!

Dear umensitter56,

I'm sorry for yours and your father's lost. Have you checked out www.meetup.com? They have "meet-up" groups in most major cities and the groups vary greatly depending on age group, hobbies, etc. I was just looking at the group list for Hampton Road and I remember seeing a group for those who have lost loved ones and another group for seniors. There are plenty of other social groups.

Hope this helps.

I have heard of meetup.com I can't access it from base (that is where I am now) but I plan to look when I get home. I just don't know how to get him out and about. He isn't ready to date, it's only been a year since my moms death, but he wants to get out with people his own age. Thanks for your help.

Does he like to camp, fish and canoe? There are all kinds of people your dad's age that he could meet at the local campgrounds.

I know when my grandparents used to live here, they had a whole bunch of senior citizen clubs they went too. They made many friends and did many activities to include dancing and playing board games.
