Not my age, not my qualfications. That said, I can imagine she was highly in debt. All of that crap would require well over 100k of salary. Those jobs are about 1 in 150,000 in the area that dont involve the medical field.

Then find a doctors office / medical place?

I'm sure she made 6 figures. She was the financial controller for the place.

1. I meant medical as in doctor or surgeon, not medical as in accounting staff to a hospital

2. Both controllers Ive worked under since Ive been here did not make close to 100k. Both had over 20 years of experience in accounting and CPA's. I think you might have come across a highly overpaid (for the area) example which is not common place in this region.

$100K is far from a doctor. Given housing prices, that is what the median household income should be in VaBeach (minimum) to afford the junk they are throwing up.

It's all good.

I don't think I'll ever buy a new car again. I just can't stand the dealerships. They think they can screw over customers and more will just come in. Perhaps that isn't the case.

Default It could be worse, Randomdude

It could be worse, Randomdude! You could live in Michigan! The auto industry is crumbling, houses are being repossessed, and my family and friends are leaving in droves. But seriously, I'm lucky to still have a job, a house, and my health. Do I like Michigan? Not in the winter! The other seasons are tolerable. Michigan isn't my ideal location, especially since my friends and family are leaving. Still, I won't trash it because doing so would only create more negative energy and less satisfaction with my current situation. Negativity breeds more negativity. As many posters have pointed out, life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it. A positive attitude makes all the difference. Then it's a matter of creating a vision of a "perfect life" and working to get there.

The reason I'm reading this post is because I stumbled upon it while researching places to relocate in 13 years. With any luck, I will retire or semi-retire with my full pension in 13 years. I will go to a place with a more temperate climate where I can be active. I will surf small waves, hike, bike, kayak, and enjoy life. In the meantime, I COULD be negative about Michigan. Instead, I make the best of what there is. I'm saving money. I'm researching places I may want to live and taking short, cheap vacations to try to determine "my ideal place to live." Maybe it's coastal NC or the Dominican Republic or Costa Rica or maybe even the Virginia Beach area. Maybe I'll get lucky and find the perfect place to live for a cheap price in the next few years. Maybe I'll stumble across a business that I could run or a job I'd enjoy while "semi-retired." I just know that setting goals and working toward them leads to overall satisfaction in life. Randomdude, it sounds like you're creating your visions too and working toward them. In the meantime, ENJOY the beach and whatever else your city has to offer!

This place is far from cheap. Also, taxes are bad for retirees (I don't understand that part fully, but have just heard it).

A chunk of people from our region moved to Michigan (Deerborne?) when they were offered relocation from the Ford plant that shut down.

I've read about people who are stuck in small towns or manufacturing towns. It's a shame that instead of buying GM the gov't didn't give shove to help get more, new, auto manufacturers moving. I'm hearing excitement from friends about the Tesla Motors sedan.

Real estate taxes in VB for retired people on limited incomes can be approved for reduced taxation for what I understand.
