I don't think the people of Hampton Roads have enough disposable income to spend $100/ticket on pro sports often?

I point out the issues with the area, and I've never gotten any good rebuttal. Normally it's something (most likely from a realatard) like, "Well we bought in 1999 and home value has done well everything about Hampton Roads is great!"

I've got this suspicion that the portion of home values that weren't driven up from the unworthy with large loans was from people who cashed out of other areas (New York, Boston, etc) to take advantage of the cheaper housing here. Now that it's obvious housing prices will continue to decline, they might not be so happy here.

The last private tech company I worked for (which went under), most if not all the people that relocated here are relocating back. One is already back in Seattle. My ex-boss had a $1mil house built when he moved here and is trying to do consulting or something, but all of the work is elsewhere I'm sure.

Hate me all you want for telling it like I see it. I'd prefer to see people show me examples of where I'm wrong, but no one has so far.

Anyone that bought a home is in the category of misery loves company, so they will say the area is great to protect their "investment." You gotta be wary of that.

Its not my job to make the area a better place. I do not have a business or the means to create one, nor a position on a city council board.

However, those people should pay attention to the terrific brain drain Hampton Roads continues to suffer. Its really harming the small chance the area ever may have of becoming anything.

Everything always seems to come back to home prices for you when you get in a corner and are trying to get out......
What someone pays for a house is a personal option within that family and to try and state what other people think is just wrong and stupid on your part.....I for one know all of your post are the could of, would of, should of brand of posting and I think everyone on this board knows that...note the number of different replies......I just wish you would post something original about this area just for once

Back to the waiting for a hand out response I see........It is your job to make this place better, it is up to everyone that lives in HR's and if you think its not you will never be happy anywhere you live with that attitude .......

Actually, I will be happy given a wage which allows me to purchase a reasonable single family home, in a reasonably safe neighborhood. I really do not require much more then that to be satisfied with my own personal position in life.

I don't even think it's amusing when people blame the outcome of their lives on "my wages, my bills, my education, the environment." It gets tiring to read it time and time again when WE are responsible for our own problems and achievements.

Well it seems that most people on this board have done just that so I don't think the problem is the local area and what it does or does not offer.......

If your employment does not satisfy your own personal goals then I don't think waiting for the economy to lower itself to meet your present income is the answer because I don't think it ever will....sure house prices may fall some yet locally but any savings gained from that transaction will be short lived as taxes, fees, etc will need to be increased to meet daily operating expenses for the local city, along with the state and federal government. Trust me the local cities are biting at the hook just waiting to raise the local property taxes on real estate and I can pretty much guarantee all of the local cities will raise these rates for the 2011 budget

What do you think is the first thing local or national companies/businesses do that have seen a drop in revenue? The answer is raise the local operating cost to its customers...So businesses like Cox, Dominion Power etc raise rates so expect to see even higher rates from them shortly....Same with the local cities....not only will you see a raise in property taxes you can also expect to see water, sewage and other fees increase in price.....The rise in these fees will be needed to off set the loss in taxable income the cities will be losing from the lower then normal taxes from local real estate

And don't expect salaries to increase anytime soon......until the dollar is free flowing again and people are back out spending money salaries will stay stagnant or maybe drop some more.

So sure for many people buying a house now will allow their mortgage to be less then what it would of been for the same house a few years ago but when it is all said and done, time everyone else gets their piece of the pie the savings you have left at the end of the month wont look much different then what it did before this recession started....so if you are waiting for some magical time to occur in the future that will increase your monthly or yearly spending power off of the same salary you have now....sorry its not going to happen

I find it amusing the demographic of people who spout this drivel. White, 80k+ household income, 2,000 sqft house or larger, two car garage filled with a couple SUVs, a boat, vote a straight Republican ticket 9 times out of 10.
