What's with all the mosquito spraying?
Hi--we're new to this area and I was just wondering what was up with all the mosquito spraying. I read in the paper that they're going to be spraying for the next 3 nights?--yikes! I get that it's buggy, but 3 nights seems a little excessive. Do they spray the whole area every night for three nights or do they do a different part each night (like York County one night and Poquoson the next)?
Do they do this a lot????

I'm so use to it, I don't even notice anymore. When I was younger, they would drive through the neighborhood, and it would make the mosquitos come out!

Don't anybody laugh when I write this, but the mosquito population here is wicked compared to what I'm used to. Back home, I would NEVER get bitten by a mosquito. Here, they bite me! They must be a tougher breed here!

Hey, I'm not laughing--we're from upstate NY and the mosquitoes really aren't all that bad there. To be honest, we haven't really noticed that they're that bad here, but others have mentioned it. I've heard that they just spray the heck out of Poquoson--does anybody know if it's really worse there (the spraying, I mean) than other areas of Hampton Roads?

I think all of the local cities spray. The mosquitoes here can be really bad. We can't go outside right now with out getting eat up.

I am not adverse to the spraying as we live on a lake and the best of the sprays make it bearable.

In the past, I have noticed that the mosquitos get worse in August. By that time, not so much rain and the mosquitos breed in any standing water.
How bad they get really depends on the weather we have in the summer. I can remember one summer when you had to spray yourself before you could even walk to your car!
