I hate jet noise ! I originally lived in Washington Square townhomes and right in the landing path of the jets. Horrible ! Horrible! When I first moved to VB, I was like okay, do people living here really think this is normal living ? Like everyone else around the US living near a base gets this ? Not !! Fortunately, we moved asap, still live in the area, but not in the flight path ! The funny thing is that the local government made it seem that losing the base would lose money for VB ! It would create money as it would be geared more towards a vacation spot and area home values would rise. Imagine that. Also, they would not close the base completely, atleast not for years, it would just no longer be the "master jet base". I used to live in Ca where they had a major base closure. It doesn't close completely and it didn't hurt the economy, just maybe the cheap car dealers, strip joints and pawn shops. Sorry, I'm just going off.

I totally support our pilots by the way! Its a major misconception that if we don't support jet noise, then we don't support our military ! Ridiculous. Its not the pilot's fault our government decided its okay to fly low over communitites. I personally think it is very unfair to the pilots because from what I understand, there are a lot of restrictions placed on them because of the close proximity of communities. Its not fair to the pilots or to homeowners. A master jet base should be in a area where encroachment for atleast 15 miles is restricted. It was just bad planning and when they build their next master jet base, eventually, I hope they will learn from this location.

I have lived here 22 1/2 years in various parts of the city. I've driven on 264 near Birdneck and had them come screaming in so low I almost drove off the highway, I was ducking, and looked for wheel marks on my car roof when I stopped!

I live off Little Neck Road (X11 years), and sometimes they fly SO low over my house I can practically see the pilot and my windows shake when they scream by. Why would they need to do this in the center of the city? Is a pilot checking out his house and looking for cars in his driveway?

Twenty years ago, I lived in Tivoli apartments off Holland Road; I would sit on my patio and watch the jets fly straight up, until you couldn't see them, they were so far up. Then they'd come screaming straight back down, reach an mark that was invisible to me, and flatten out. Repeat this for a few hours...I was just waiting for the day they didn't flatten out and slammed into Lynnhaven Mall. But, no, the Navy NEVER does moves like this over populated areas...

And what do these moves have to do with the sound of freedom? Bottom line, they should not be done over the city at all! ANY city! There's a huge ocean just to the East...have at it!

I love when that happens and almost wreck my car w excitement. I hope you gave him a big thumbs up.

It amazes me that this is a topic. We just lost two young people in an F15 crash in Afganistan, which is EXTREMELY rare. Supposedly they weren't shot down. I'm thinking it was probably mountainous and quite sure they don't get much practice with that. But if we are going to send them to a war zone, let's stop picking on the noise here. When Saddam was asked "Why didn't you fight" he responded "Against all that?" I hear power and freedom and as long as the planes are there and being used the pilots should be fully trained.

Just because you don't like the jet noise does not make you anti-American so please get off your soap box and quit trying to preach to me about what I should or should not be picking on as an American......Yes it is terrible that two young people lost their lives in a F15 crash........that is war, and it is expected........But would your thoughts of been any different if those same two would of been killed in a training exercise over American soil, say plowing the plane accidentally into a crowded shopping mall killing several hundred civilians with them. As you stated it is EXTREMELY rare but accidents do occur

The debate over whether Oceana should or should not be located in Va Bch has nothing to do with being for or against the military as a whole, so great you hear power and freedom as they fly over you house....I don't need to hear the jets to understand the power and freedom that we have in this country..... so when the jets fly over my house all I hear is noise.....

Uhhh, part of the point of being over there is to wear out/loose the equipment so new stuff must be purchased from friends of the elite. The elite being banks and the industrial-military complex.

There are a couple things you DO need to understand. You live in a military area. If you don't like jet noise, don't live here. Move to the beach and complain about erosion, move next to the crab factory and complain about the odor. If you don't like trains don't build your house next to the tracks. If you don't like wildlife don't live next to the woods. People like you give me a pain with your pitiful complaints that must seem to you to be sooooooo serious. AND PLEASE tell me since you mentioned it a couple of times, when did a jet crash into a building killing hundreds of people. OH yeah New York, Washington... They weren't our fighter planes, but those noise makers (damn even with afterburners) sure got up in a hurry that day. DIDN'T THEY? Could very well be the reason that this heavily populated military area and major target was not attacked. Get your britches out of a twist, not everything is PERFECT! I would much rather we do something about the volume/decibels of car stereos pumping vulgarities and violence (against at least my will) and imposing it on all society at all hours and all places (which I am in the process of planning "flight" out of this area because of). YES I WOULD RATHER HEAR A JET FLY OVER at 2am

LOL..... I love a good debate but at least debate what I have posted and don't put words into my mouth before you come back with a reply.........
Did I ever say a plane crashed in the local mall killing hundreds of people....No I did not...so try and keep up, I just asked you if you would of felt any different toward those pilots if that did occur....but if it would make you fell any better I can post a number of links where civilians have been killed in military jets crashed on US soil if that will make you feel better.....We had one a Oceana do just that years ago when it decided to land on her vehicle...And trying to bring 9-11 into this debate about the jet noise at Oceana....well now you are just reaching......

And it’s funny you talk about the volume/decibels of car stereos/loud noise which the law in Va Bch has been passed to make it illegal if the decibel level is greater then 55 on the decibel meters the cops now carry, so if I happen to have my radio at 60 dB when a cop stops me I'm going to get a 250 dollar ticket but if an F18 jet just happens to fly over while the cop is writting me a ticket and that jets noise is 90 bD I am suppose to be ok with that..?

Last December, four were killed when an F-18 crashed into a house in San Diego.

People have a right to be concerned when jets are flying over populated areas, because accidents do happen. When I was living in San Diego, our area was buzzed by one of the Blue Angels planes flying really low. I know it was unnecessarily low, because we were under their performance flight path that weekend and the noise was never anywhere near as loud as that first flyover, which shook our building. Perhaps we were 'lucky' enough to live near someone the pilot knew? I just don't trust that they aren't occasionally taking unnecessary risks just because they can.
