I'm familiar with all of those vision documents. What's wrong with creating them? There's nothing else to do at City Hall, your saying they waste their time creating visions for the city? Every city in america creates downtown plans. This isn't a vision either, it's called an implementation plan. Next month when it's approved by council and the planning commision they will change the zoning guidlines and begin soliciting private developers. So this 'uptopia' vision you say I have is the utopia vision of city councils, urban planners, and a lot of other people in power throughout HR's vision as well.

Sure they are fun to talk about...totally different when it comes time to pay for them.....look at all of the plans that have been cut from the budgets and postponed indefinitely....

They are just like a wish list a kid has for Christmas, that kid knows he/she is not going to get everything on that list but he/she puts in on there anyway because it is fun to dream......

So keep dreaming but when Christmas day shows up don't be disappointed when much of what you thought was going to be there is not....

Why would I be dissapointed when I enjoy all the areas with vision plans in their current state? It'd be great if they came to life, but even as it is now it's cool.

Well if you would not be disappointed then why are we debating this post......I know I have been disappointed in many things that have not happened in Hampton Roads over the years...

I would of like to of seen the southeastern parkway built, I think Va Bch should of told Norfolk to stuff it and built a world class zoo, I would of liked to of seen a pro sports team settle here locally...I would of liked to of seen nascar build a track here....I would of liked to of seen Va bch tell the military to stick it and close Oceana and let Disney take the property over...all of these things could of occurred here locally already if our city leaders truly had Vision or had been willing to work together .......

so enjoy Hampton Roads as it is......... and it is not a bad place to live but it could of been so much more then what it is today.......

Is there anything different today about the politics of Hampton Roads that shows that in another 20 years you wont be sitting back complaining about the same things I complain about today......If there is a difference I don't see it yet....

I know it could be much better. The only thing that hurts me is the pro sports team.

But dude you've said a million times we need to work together then you say "virginia bech should have told norfolk to stuff it"

Watch this. Video about Charlotte and the light rail naysayers. We have the exact same system as they do.

What is the difference...Norfolk told Va Bch not to build it.......

The vision plan you just posted about town center shows nothing about local cities working together.......Norfolk has wanted a pro sports team for years and Va Bch knows this but has not offered their assistance in the past......but in the vision plan it shows Va Bch with their own sports arena so how do you think the city leaders of Norfolk feel when they look at this plan today....do you think that is going to warm their hearts or tick them off......... It would tell me....why try and work together today when this plans shows we wont be working together 40 years from now

How would they depict themselves working together in a vision plan? In a perfect world, Fraim and Sessoms could sit down and say look, we will go on a joint venture and build the arena at newtown rd."

don't get me started on Charlotte......why don't you read up on a little history and go back about 25-30 years.....back then Norfolk and Charlotte were both wanting to revamp their downtown's and both wanting to use banking to do that with in hopes of becoming a strong financial center on the East coast.....

30 years later Norfolk is still Norfolk not much different then it was back then....Charlotte has become a major U.S. financial center (either number one or two in the USA depending on who you believe) which has brought in a ton of fortune 500 companies which in turn gave them several pro spots teams, pretty much the home base for NASCAR along with NHRA racing and many other sporting events which has given the city a tax base to build on not only today but for the future.....

Charlotte is the perfect example of what Hampton Roads could of been if it had worked together
