Default Chesapeake Restaurant Recommendations

So, I've been in the Chesapeake for about 3 months and have not found a decent restaurant in the area. I've found a few places in Portsmouth and Norfolk, but nothing here.

So what do you guys recommend? I'm looking for a place that you crave and always want to go back too or want to take friends/family.

Here's a partial list of places I've experienced and wasn't too impressed:

Joe's Crab Shack
Pho 79
Two Son's
Buffalo Wild Wings
3-4 Mexican Joints
Broken Egg Bistro
Wood Chicks
Ms Marians
Salsaritas
Tropical Smoothie
Pasha
Cugini's

Thanks,

Joe

stay away from franchises. Try family owned places. Seafood: Croakers on Shore Dr. in Virginia Beach. Various cuisine: Steinhilbers on Thalia in Virignia Beach.

Stay outta Chesapeake and go to Norfolk, Portsmouth, and especially Virginia Beach.

Default restaurants

Surf Rider on Laskin Road at the oceanfront is excellent. A little bit of a drive, but worth it.

There are three other surf riders..family owned. One on Newtown Road off the interstate, one at Diamond Springs @ Cypress Shopping Center and a nice view Surf Rider at Taylor's Landing Marina on Ocean View.

NO, it's not crap. But there is definitely more of a selection in Virginia Beach.

If you like seafood, Pirates Cove is very good, and it's usually crowded. It's near Chesapeake General. I've eaten there many times.

The Courthouse Cafe is also very good, really good. I've never had the prime rib, but I hear many rave about it.

For breakfast, or lunch, you cannot beat The Grill. I don't care WHERE you go. It's a teeny little place on Battlefield, near the Mt. Pleasant Rd. intersection. Their Philly Cheesesteak is unbeatable in this area. Not for large crowds - it's a locals treasure.

The only place to eat wings, as far as I'm concerned, is Wild Wing Cafe over by Sam's Club. We love that place. Great food, great service, and a band every night.

Kyotos near Greenbrier is an excellent Japanese place - I've been there several times and everyone I know that goes there, loves it.

There you go, that should get you started.

For a unique experience, try The Grate Steak on Military Hwy in Norfolk. The decor is a little dated, but you can cook your steak on a huge grill the way you like it, and they have a great salad bar.

Wait...you cook the steak yourself???

AWESOMEST (made-up word) business plan ever!
Charge people for doing the cooking themselves!
LOL..this is so genius.
