Questions about Grassfield/Forest Lakes area in Chesapeake
We just put a contract on a house in the Lake Forest neighborhood in Chesapeake, and I was wondering if anyone knew anything about that area. Orginially we put an offer on a house in the Great Neck area where we've living before, but pulled it b/c the house just needed too much work and was too expensive and the jet noise was BAD. It seems to have gotten worse since we were stationed here last. Thanks so much!

Is that the neighborhood off of Waters Road? If so, that is probably one of my more favorite neighborhoods, lots of trees and character as opposed to the vast empty fields they throw up cookie cutter houses on now. As far as I know that is a good neighborhood. Drastically over priced, but still a good neighborhood.

Forest Lakes
I grew up in Forest Lakes. My parents built there 18 years ago and still live there. It is a great neighborhood with lots of trees and a variety of houses. When I lived there it was still Great Bridge but I have heard that the new school is also very good.

We don't live in Forest Lakes but in that general area, and really like it. Our kids are still in elementary school, so they go to Grassfield Elementary.

new to area
Thanks so much for the responses. Are there many things to do near that area? Restaurants, etc? We only had a couple days to look, and we had a newborn with us, so we didn't get to drive around or research very much. We also have a 5 year old, so she'll be starting kindergarten at Cedar Roads Elem. in January. It looks like a good school. Any opinions?

As far as things to do..you have sports and things like that for your daughter (don't know if she'd be in to that). You also have shopping and stuff like that..but not really any in the general area. There are some restaurants but the ones in the general area are the typical restaurants you'll find everywhere. Again, if you want a variety you'd have to go to at least Greenbrier. Of course, that probably also depends on how often you go out. Greenbrier is about 15 minutes away. If you want even more to do you could go to Norfolk or Virginia Beach.
Cedar Road Elementary is fantastic. I went there many many years ago and I was there last year for a class. It's a good school with a lot of programs and activities.
[And in response to what someone else said..Grassfield Elementary is nowhere near where Forest Lakes is]

I didn't say Grassfield Ele was near Forest Lakes.... I said we live in the general area, but our kids go to Grassfield.
This area in general has some restaurants but not much shopping. You have to to go to Greenbrier, but that is the case with most of Chesapeake, unless you live in Greenbrier or the Chesapeake Square Mall area. In non rush hour traffic I can be in Greenbrier in 10 min.

It's 21 miles. Traffic can be bad on I-64 and I-564. But with no traffic, 25 minutes
