This isnt neccessarily true. It is not clear if the company is planning on hiring locals, or simply bringing in people to the area. If they hired 35 people from outside of the area, it really didnt help Hampton Roads at all did it?

I can pretty much guarantee you the senior most jobs in that facility will go to people who have been headhunted from around the region, or even the country.

"It really didn't help Hampton Roads at all did it?"

Nope. The realtor who sells them the house, the grocery store they shop at, the car dealer they buy a new vehicle from, the movie theater taking their ticket, the lawyer they consult, and their families probably wish those johnny-come-latelies had stayed home.

Ok, Im sorry, a person making 40k a year is not really going to domino effect the economy that much.

I think Hampton Roads should disown Franklin. Seriously, that place is going to turn into a ghost town. Sad, but true.

Well into days paper it stated the ripple effect of the paper mill closing could add up to about 3,500 jobs around the area.....so in truth just this one plant closing effects allot for then just the city of Franklin

I feel for those folks since the town has always been based around one large employer - and one that pays quite well. It will be very difficult to replace what will be lost.
