Dude, I just gave you per capita income stats from cities you listed that are supposedly better than HR. In each case while our PCI is lower so is the cost of housing. I only added Charlotte and Jax to support the fact that we aren't cheap, only comparable or less than some popular cities. For every Indy that you add, I can include a city in the NE (where I'm from) or west coast that is much more difficult financially than here.

You can add whatever you want to make HR look terrible and, given your situation, it must appear to be. I can't understand why you get so wound up about this. I am almost middle aged now (40), but I have NEVER struggled to make it here. Trust me, I'm not in a high paying profession.

I am shocked by how well Richmond pays though. Frankly, living in Richmond appears to be pretty decent, at least in terms of finances.

Peace man. Nothing personal.

Ok, first thing, you are linking two different arguments, which is a fallacy for those watching at home. With the first argument, I was showing that many cities in this country, in fact, most of the major ones, have marriage rates far lower then Virginia Beach, and Hampton Roads in general. This was to show that household income is a worthless smoke and mirrors stat. Basically, Virginia Beach has far more multiple income households then the average metro area. By the same token though, it should not be neccessary for a household to have dual incomes to get by, which is the case with many Va Beach residents.

You then counter with comparing the per capita income of Virginia Beach and housing costs to some of those cities, which is a COMPLETELY separate argument. Not only is that a cost of living argument, as opposed to a wage argument (fallacy), but the cities that you show are completely superior to Virginia Beach in every measurable way.

I can add cities from about 85% of the United States. You can only add some cities in Florida, the west coast, and parts of New England/New York/New Jersey on the Atlantic Ocean.

The fact is, Virginia Beach is the MOST overpriced city in the country that is not located in the DC-Boston corridor, Florida, or the west coast. However, most of those cities have some relatively legit reason for being overpriced. Virginia Beach has absolutely nothing outside of sprawling cookie cutter neighborhoods, traffic created by people who will never support public options, and a dirty polluted ocean.

If you were 22 years old right now, coming out of college, trust me, you would likely be struggling. Struggling, especially when theyve done nothing wrong, would get someone really frustrated and wound up.

Im not shocked at all. The only shocker to me is how poorly this area pays, which makes other areas look really good.

Why the big debate, everyone knows that Hampton Roads is an expensive place to live.....no one can debate that....sure you can show stats where certain cities are cheaper and you can show stats where certain cities are more expensive but none of those stats will change the facts about Hampton Roads......either you live here and deal with the cost of living or you move elsewhere
