Default Moving to the HR area

I will be moving to the HR area because of a new job at the NN shipyard. I was wondering about the surround areas as far as places to live. I'm looking for a decent commute, no more than maybe 45 min to get to work from home. I want to find an area that has affordable homes, maybe new developments. Also, how bad is the commute from say smithfield, does the bridge have really bad delays?

The James River Bridge is only congested when there is an accident of lift. Smithfield is a good place to raise a family but housing can be somewhat expensive. The Monitor Merrimac Bridge Tunnel is congested sometimes but typically reasonable if you want to consider Suffolk, Portsmouth, or Chesapeake. Do not plan on commuting across the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel unless you like sitting in 10 mile back ups daily.

For that kind of money I'd suggest Hampton, Portsmouth, or Suffolk. Portsmouth and Hampton are not known for the greatest school systems so keep that in mind if you have kids.
