Default Does anyone rides their Bicycle to work?

I was stationed in D.C. area and I used to ride my Bicycle to work during summer time. I am moving to Langley and wanted to know:

1) Best place to live to do this when weather permits.
2) Are there any bicycle roads out there that can be used for this purpose?

Thanks!

York County had high hopes for Bike Paths years ago but hasn't made much progress. You can ride on roads with out them but it can be a little nerve racking on the higher speed roads.
Here is a map which shows existing ( very little ) and planned bike paths in the area.

Unfortunately, down here if you are riding a bicycle to work, you probably have a DUI conviction & have lost your license!

My neighbor ( Let's call him ironman) rode his bike to work every day last year. its only about 4 miles each way. In addition this 54 year old would ride organized mt bike rides and road bike rides weekly to the tune of about 600-700 miles monthly. I used to attempt to keep up with him but gave up long ago. I did manage to ride 1200 miles the first year I got back into cycling. In the Williamsburg/ James City County area we have quite a few roads with bike lanes on them and a lot of back country roads that are pleasant for cycling. Lots of mountain bike trails in area parks also. Eventually the Capital to Capital Bike trail will be completed from Jamestown to Richmond ( 55 miles) all of it paved trail separated from the road.

BTW this same gent entered into an adventure race with my wife ( The athlete) They mountain biked, ran, orienteered and canoed approx 70 miles around the Williamsburg area. Finishing 2nd in their class ( co-ed) in 11.5 hours First place finishers were professionals. Wish I had that kind of energy and drive..

I ride a lot of the time. Only 1 mile each way though. No problem with cars at 6:30 in the morning.
