try career builder. I'm not quite sure how far you want to drive, but there are factories/shipyards that may be hiring. The privately owned places do hire/have hired those with a scarred background.

What was the crime? That might help someone point you in the right direction. Big difference between Dog-fighting (Class 6 felony) and Murder. I realize the debt to society has been paid.

I had a carpet installer that was a felon. He served time for manslaughter following a bar fight.

Angel, I think all employers WILL CARE about your past history. ALL OF IT. You need to be prepared to talk about the good, the bad and the ugly. What did you do in the past that was so horrible and what have you done since to make up for it??????? If you stole, then I probably wouldn't hire you to be in charge of money, until you have proven yourself. See????

I find the folks here to be really good people, and they may try to help you. but you have to help yourself first. What did you do? What are you experienced at?

Most background checks go back ten years. If your crime has been within that time frame, then it may impact certain areas of work. I know people who have had been incarcerated and still found employment in areas that were not a threat to the businesses.

Take some night school, tech college classes, or anything else that will show you're working hard to better yourself. If all else fails, become a hermit or beach comber. I know I've thought of doing it many-a-time.

Beach comber...not a bad idea sometimes!

Every job will want to know your history, but start with some "minimum wage" type job. This will give you time to prove yourself that you are getting back on the right track, and will give you a good past employment history. That way, future prospective employers will take you more seriously and will consider your new employment history more so than your criminal record.

That's right. We run background checks where I work. The issue is always discussed and it depends what the offense was, but so far it hasn't kept anyone from not joining in. However, if they are not honest about it and forthcoming on the application form, that is a huge deal!

As an felon you have 2 strikes against you when you get out. My brother served time and was locked away for 14 years. He is working now but its hard for him as it would be anyone. You dont have to disclose your past if its not asked on the application. Most apps ask if you have been convicted of a felony within the past 10 years and some say have you EVER been convicted of a felony.

Only give what info is needed and never offer more then is asked.
