I agree Poquoson is also a nice place to live (I actually live in Poquoson!) but there are not many houses/townhouses for rent there. I am aware of a nice townhouse currently for sale there...

Hampton is Compton and Miami ghetto??!! I don't think so! Not even close!! Miami crime rate is above the national average! Hampton isn't even close to the national average. I've live in Hampton, Virginia my entire life. Crime here is nowhere close to what it is in Compton or Miami! That's false!!

If you plan on working on the Southside I'd strongly suggest living on the Southside.
Hampton has good schools as well.

While I agree it sounded like damian was saying that NN and Hampton were comparable to those two cities, I don't think that's what he actually meant. I remember damian (he was actually instrumental in helping us find --through this site, a good NN neighborhood to live in when we first moved here). He was always pretty balanced about the area. I think what he was trying to say was that there were small parts of both cities that would be comparable to Miami and/or Compton, but that those small areas didn't necessarily affect the cities overall. If you've ever been to the extreme southeastern part of NN, then you'd probably agree that it's pretty bad. It's also, however, a 25 minute drive from my house. If what he's saying is that the small, really bad areas of both NN and Hampton don't really detract from the area as a whole (as I think he is), then I agree with him.

And, if he ever comes back to this site, I want to give him a big cyber-kiss because I really love my neighborhood.
