Default Homes and schools in Chesapeake

Greetings and happy holidays!
I lived in Norfolk from 2000 - 2006. I am relocating to VA via the military. This is hopefully going to be my last duty station, and I am looking to retire there. My wife is an RN and I have 2 children 11 and 8. I want to buy a home in Chesapeake with good neighborhoods and schools. Price is not really a concern considering this is where I want to be. Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks!

I guess you are set on moving here so I won't try and talk you out of it . Great Bridge, Hickory, and Grassfield are by far the best school districts in Chesapeake. I would think twice about buying a home in another school district such as Oscar Smith, Indian River, etc. You will pay a premium to live in these districts though. What price range are you looking at? I know you said price is not a concern, but you must have some range, based on that we can recommend neighborhoods. The median price in my zip code of Great Bridge is about $382K. The nicer neighborhoods will probably be $400K-$500K+. Also, what type of neighborhood do you like (established or new)? The established ones here generally have a good amount of trees and some variety in houses but older more outdated homes. The newer style of neighborhood has new construction, but an overall cookie cutter feel. Let us know and we can provide more recommendations.

My ideal range is 300 - 400,000. The areas you mentioned seem to be ideal to what I am looking for. I really miss VA and look forward to getting back there. I will check out those school districts also. Thanks.

All my research indicated Hickory & Great Bridge. Those 2 are really the best. Grassfield is a new school. As far as neighborhoods go, Hickory is less traffic, Great bridge is a little more hectic For your price range you should do very well. If you need a good real estate agent send me a PM & I will recommend one for you. One that I found was a dedicated professional interested more in finding our perfect house that in getting his commission.

if you are looking for a new, there is a new neighborhood in the 300k to 400k price range, in the hickory district!! could be right up your alley. there are several other neighborhoods in that price range that may be interesting to you as well. Prices have come down since you were last here and you should be able find a nice home for that money.....

I just ran a search for Great Bridge, Hickory, and parts of Grassfield and over 400 homes came up!! Some neighborhoods: Los Gaviotas, Millwood, Summer Park (very cool neighborhood in the grassfields area), Eagle Point, Etheridge Woods, Etheridge Meadows, and so many more

I live in Western Branch, and my family loves the schools and community. There are lots of older homes with big lots. My neighborhood (Raleigh Place) is across from Chittum School, and there are home for sale now from 270k to 700k. I like the fact that people with such different income levels live together. There are new homes too. I also like Joliff Woods and David's Mill. These neighborhoods have mature trees, larger lots, and some architectural variety. We all feed into the Chittum/Joliff/Western Branch Schools.
