Default Thinking of Relocatining

I need advice on a good area to live in the Norfolk or Hampton area. I am a single mother of 2 boys ages 1 and 7 years old. I am currently homeschooling my boys. I am looking to rent for right now in the area of $500-$600 a month. How is the employement in this area? All the information and advice will be helpful.

If you live in Washington DC now you should have a little more money to spare for rent (i know, i live in Alexandria). around $700 should get you into a halfway decent neighborhood. A few to consider are Bayview and Ghent in Norfolk, Falcon Creek, Michael's Woods and the northern area close to Langley and York County in Hampton, the north end and Menchville area in Newport news these areas are safe and reasonably affordable. The public schools in NFK/Hampton are better compared to DC, that might not be saying much. The best schools are in Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, and York County. as for the employment, do not move without the job first. the dc job market is leaps and bounds better than Norfolk. Govt and shipbuilding are the big employers here and not much else. So good luck with this move.
