I'm interested in the above areas. No kids, hub may be relocating to Ft. Eustis for job, but we're interested in the above areas. Also, are there any more of these 'small town feel' type neighborhoods around that area. Would also consider areas north, sleepy bedroom communities are fine. Would be renting, have no idea what rent goes for in those areas. I would say $900-1000 a month or so. House or apt for rent. Not interested in DRAMA or high CRIME areas. Nightlife means nothing. What is the commute like over Ft. Eustis Blvd. to the areas I mentioned?
Thanks in advance!

I just did a quick search in Poquoson and York Co (includes Seaford/Tabb) and only found 3 rentals currently listed in the MLS under $1000:

All in Yorktown:
House, 1500 sqft, 3 BR, 1.5 BA, $995.
Townhouse, 1200 sqft, 2 BR, 2.5 BA, $895.
Townhouse, 1300 sqft, 3 BR, 1.5 BA, $995.

These tend to come and go pretty quickly. Send me a PM and I can send over those listings if desired.

If you want to give some more specifics (min BR, BA, sqft), I can look in the Denbign area.

You are looking at a 20-30 minute commute from Poquoson and about the same, maybe a little shorter depending on where, from York County. They are in the process of widening Fort Eustis Blvd all the way to Rte 17 which will help a lot, but they just started.

Of those, Seaford & Poquoson are most likely to give you the small town feel you're looking for. There are also some smaller towns on the other side of the bridge (Hayes, Gloucester Point, Gloucester).

I think for the type of rent you're looking for, you might be better off just driving around looking for the "For Rent" signs that are used by those who are renting out their homes/apartments directly.

Good luck!

Hey thanks! I did a little research and your rents are really high there! I used to live around there and the rents have doubled almost. I guess 1300-1500 is more realistic, no?

Increasing the rental price up to $1500/mo brings up 21 listings in Yorktown and 75 in Denbigh South and Denbigh North. At $1500/mo, if you are able, you might want to consider purchasing instead, especially now with the $8,000 tax credit and interest rates around 5%.

Dont want to purchase, thanks. Have a house to sell here, and things arent selling, so we will be renting it out...cant qualify for 2 mortgages, but thanks!
What about the Kiln Creek area? Has that gone downhill? There are a few listings (rentals) that came up on Google.

I think Kiln Creek has held up quite well. The association is pretty strict in there, and they get on the owners if they are not maintaining the home. Kiln Creek is partially in Newport News and Yorktown, and I found 3 rentals on the Newport News side and 1 in York. All are condos/townhouses. I'm not sure if that would meet the definition of "small town feel" but it certainly is in a very convenient location.

Went back there in June (13 years in HR, moved in 04). Still looks nice and the prices prove it.

Klin Creek is a nice area. But Klin Creek is in Newport News therefore that "small town" feeling wont be there. Seaford and Poquoson definitely has the small town feel but it's also kind of in the boondocks. Yorktown is a happy medium in my opinion.

Edit: also the towns and counties around here can overlap, so one part can be a bit more "busy" while the opposite side can be more in the sticks. Try street viewing (google) some areas and check it out for yourself.
