As a single mom moving to the area, just wondering how is dating in general for single women over 40? I've seen HR threads on dating in the area from a guy's point of view. It sounds like the ratio of men to women is favorable for women, but I'm sure that ratio is somewhat skewed by the percentage of twenty-something military guys. Not that there's anything wrong with that
but just wanted to ask if anyone has an idea what the dating scene might be like for the forty-something demographic?

From what I have seen you will have absolutely no problems, this area is loaded with single guys of all ages. My wife's Mom is 50+ and she signed up for one of those dating sites. She was telling us how she cleaned out her inbox of 300+ replies one day and left for lunch. When she came back she had about 50 more replies waiting for her. She even had guys as young as their 30s contacting her. There is a lot that sucks about HR, but the male to female ratio being favorable to women is not one of them.

There does seem to be a shortage of women and the ones I've come across aren't good looking, or have very different interests than I do.

Hey, it's too soon to be getting us both excited.
However, I will be 35 in August and I'm good looking and very interesting. If I do move to VB, in time I will be looking for it all esp friends and someone special.
