hello all, I have a question about teaching jobs in the area. My significant other is a 1st grade teacher and has over 7 years experience. We would like info on teaching jobs in the Hampton Roads area including williamsburg and other neighboring areas. She does not have a masters, yet. Are jobs limited? Or is there availability in areas? Your help is greatly appreciated!

Does she plan on teaching in one of the "better school districts" or is she willing to take a job in one of the "worst districts" ?

Being honest, it might be hard for teachers to find jobs anywhere in VA this year. Teachers are going to be laid off in many school districts.

Sorry for the bad news.

I currently teach in the HR area and have been here for several years with tenure - there are lots of layoffs coming here now (including my job) so I would NOT recommend counting on finding anything here for fall. That being said I would not discourage your applying - but just a need to be aware of the reality here as there are predictions from the governor of up to 30K teachers statewide could possibly lose their jobs... not a good economy here right now for sure for teaching.

Thank you. Very good to know. I think jobs everywhere are in jeopardy and teaching jobs even more so. There are budget crisis everywhere. Now would probably be a good time to go back to school and plan for LONG term. Did you hear about Kansas City? Does what you say apply to ALL counties in the region? Surry, York, Isle of Wight, suffolk, Chesapeake etc etc?? Thanks

We were all told we would have jobs next year, but some people may have to transfer.
