My husband, myself and our two kids (5 and 2) may be moving to the V. Beach/Hampton Roads/Norfolk area (military move) and I'm looking for information about schools and neighborhoods.

Both kids currently attend private episcopal schools, one preschool, one PK-12, but I'm not wedded to private schools if quality public schools can be found (i.e. I'd pay more for a house to avoid tuition!). My son also needs speech therapy 3x a week so a school that has an on-site SLP would be ideal.

I'd prefer a neighborhood w/character, urban/city-center ok for short commute, but it must be safe! New, suburban construction is OK too but it must be of good quality, no laminate counters (I'd just melt 'em anyway).

Any recommendations for areas we should consider (or avoid)? We'd like to stay under $3K a month for rent and tuition/childcare.

Thanks, in advance, for your help!

Which military base? There are so many around here, we can probably give you more specific recommendations if we knew which base.

I wish I knew myself! Chances are pretty good that it'll be Little Creek tho.
