As long as banks (backed by the gov't) will write people a loan for it, people will buy it for whatever.

So many people in this country are "how-much-a-month-ers" with no real financial education.

Look at people willing to buy and rent out places AT A LOSS.

I just saw a few friends move out of the area, and these are people with good $70K+ private jobs just cause the area is boring and other areas offer more.

I feel like there is finally starting to be a backlash. More young people should do more to fight the overpriced housing supply. Can help bring down the prices.
It should start with renters. Since you rent, you should debate what you are doing with your money. Many renters rent what they can't afford, therefore stopping them from what they can buy. You have all these "friends," but are you listening to what they are saying? You can name your price in buying property, but if you don't plan to stay, then you should start saving and move to an area that suits you. People do this all the time. Lock themselves into renting, then blame everyone for the area they chose to move to.

I'd like to think this would be a wake up call to the area, but most will probably just pass it off as nonsense, which is typical attitude you'll find around here.

Interesting poll results so far:

I'd like to hear from other people that grew up in the Cleveland area if this is even a fair assessment. HR has it's problems, but Cleveland/Detroit, not sure if that is even fair to HR, lol ... Those are totally different areas from HR; if they are talking about education and job opportunities perhaps, but outside of that it is an apples and oranges comparison.

It is fact Hampton Roads is basically black and white
It is fact, dispite 7 four year brick and mortar colleges, we still have a lower then average education.....which is French for massive brain drain.
It is fact the wage income is much lower then US average
It is fact the area relies on two or more income households far more so then most of the country
Detroit and Cleveland do have diversity not for the same reasons but there is ethnic diversity in those towns, particularly Detroit. Detroit pays very well in city government, too well if you ask me considering the shape that town is in. Both are more inclined to be liberal and unionized towns, you do not have that climate here in HR.
