Hello,

Are there any gambling casinos in Virginia? I'd like to go on vacation with my husband who enjoys going to the casinos possibly to the Virginia Beach area.
Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

No, we have no gambling in this state besides the lottery and Colonial Downs racetrack. VA is way behind the times when it comes to gambling.

You're best off going to Atlantic City if you want both the beach and casinos. The rooms, besides weekends, are far cheaper than VA Beach. I recommend staying at Harrahs, Borgata (although they're both off the boardwalk) or on the boardwalk try Showboat, The Taj's Chairmans Tower, or a Caesars luxury or premium room, just not a deluxe room.

You could also try South Florida and go to the Seminole Hardrock in Hollywood. They have some table games as well as slots, VP, etc. it's not on the beach, though it's close to it.

Really VA Beach isn't anything special, either. It's pretty beat up except for hotels like the Hilton. You're best off going some place else then waste your money here.

Good luck wherever you go and come back a winner!!

No "casinos" but Portsmouth, VA (about 20-25 mins from the Oceanfront) has several poker lounges where you can play tournaments or cash games. The City of Portsmouth has decided that poker is a game of skill and therefor is not gambling.

Are you seriously advocating Atlantic City in the same post as saying VA Beach is a dump? I think you have just voided any respect for your opinion.

Well, that's a pleasant attitude.

If you'll note, the OP said they wanted casinos, are obviously coming to VA Beach because they like the beach, thus the logical choice would be AC.

I didn't tell them to stay at Trump Plaza or the Hilton and I even mentioned to stay away from Caesar's deluxe rooms.

As I said, the only decent hotel in VA Beach is the Hilton. In AC you at least have a couple of choices if one doesn't suite your needs.

True for much (if not all) of the Peninsula, but if you are on the Southside, Ocean Downs (Berlin, MD near Ocean City) is closer. However, Ocean Downs lacks table games; an alternative that has the "full" offerings of a casino is Harrington Raceway & Casino in Harrington, DE, which takes about the same amount of time to reach from the Southside as Maryland Live.

MGM National Harbor (projected Summer 2016 opening) will be a game-changer in attracting VA traffic -- just across the river from Alexandria, and 35 minutes closer than Maryland Live for those coming from Springfield and points south on I-95.
