I'm trying to find a hand finished wooden box that will hold a crib quilt, with a wooden insert on top for baptismal and other keepsakes. I live in the middle of Amish country, anybody know of anybody who could make a dovetail box? I bought the quilt locally, would like to have a local box to make it complete. I want to support my local merchants. Thanks for any help.

Total shot in the dark here, but have you tried Saturday's Market in Middletown? The last time I was there I saw several hand-crafted furniture vendors. Surely one of them would be able to build what you're looking for.

Default Quilt/baptism hand finished wooden box

Thank you for taking the time to reply. I know nothing about Middletown, it's about 1.5 hours from here, I live in Perry County and have a very dear friend that is high risk, Catholic, older, and this is her first daughter. My father made me a dove tailed "special box" with a lower chamber and an upper tray. I wish he was alive but he isn't. He taught me a lot but not these skills, there has to be somebody in my area who has these skills that could help me. I've already ordered the Amish quilt, and I plan to have it embroidered with the baby girls name, I don't usually go to these lengths but I'm sure you know what I mean. Thanks.

My next best guess would be Old Sled Works near Duncannon. I don't know what all they sell but if they don't have anything, maybe one of the employees might be able to recommend a local craftsman.

It's been years since I've driven that way, but I think there was a woodworker's studio somewhere along Route 34 near the county line between Perry and Cumberland counties.

What about Leonard's? I've never actually been in their store, but I remember one next to the awesome antiques center they had in the 1990s.
