Default Should We Move to Harrisburg?

When are you moving? 15-18 months

Have you been here yet? No

Will you buy or rent? Rent at first
If buying, are you looking for a house or a condo? How much can you spend?
If renting, are you looking for an apartment, a townhouse or loft? Apartment or Townhouse How much can you spend? 400-800
Do you prefer hi-rise or walk up? No preference

Are you married or single? Married Do you have children? No children
Do you prefer public or private schools? Public
Do you have pets? No
Do you want or need a yard? Yard would be nice but definitely not required
Are you keeping a car? Yes
Do you prefer bustling activity or calm and quiet? Both?

What do you want to be closest to?
Work - Don't mind a commute
Shopping - Relatively close but doesn't have to be next door
Basic services (supermarket, drugstore, etc.) - Would prefer close access
Nightlife - Willing to drive
Train or subway stations Willing to drive

Do you want to live with people of a similar age, race, religion or sexual preference or do you prefer a diverse neighborhood? No Preference

My wife and I are looking to move north after I graduate in the Spring of 2013. We don't exactly know where we will be working but it will definitely be in the area of ministry/non-profit/community development. We want to be in an urban area but also have proximity to outdoors activities like hiking, kayaking, etc. When we started discussing the thought of moving, Pennsylvania immediately intrigued me and I have not been able to get it off my mind or my heart. I'm looking for brutally honest assessments of Harrisburg and the surrounding areas.

It's a great area with lots to do as far as outdoor activities go. There are jobs in the npo sector, however be advised that they don't pay well.

Check out Camp Hill and Mechanicsburg. Both are very nice and very close to Harrisburg.
