I remember growing up in Linglestown my parents and I always used to go the flea market on Carlisle Pike in Mechanicsburg on Sunday morning (AT40 used to be on WINK 104; don't know if it still does).

It looked like it was in some kind of fairgrounds and people would sell their wares: sausages, old video games, knick-knacks. There also used to be an abundance of sneakers there that looked like they didn't quite make it to Ross' Stores.

I miss that since I grew up and moved out of the area. Is it still there?

No, the Silver Spring Flea Market and the drive-in movie theater that was next to it are both gone. Sadly they have been replaced with a strip mall that has a Wegman's, Target, Chick-Fil-A, etc.

The flea market sat farther back from the road behind a few small shops and I heard the development company bought all the property along the Carlisle Pike first, including the entrance to the flea market. They were the last to sell, but became land-locked and had no choice.

Sorry to break the news to you. It was a great little place.

I never went to that flea market when I lived in the Harrisburg area, but I'm almost definite it was held at the site of the Silver Spring Speedway (not to be confused with Williams Grove Speedway, which is near Dillsburg and is very close to the now-closed Williams Grove Amusement Park).

Yes, that flea market use to be held at the Silver Spring Speedway, and like HbgGuru said, it is unfortunately gone. Sure miss it, but many of the vendors that were there moved on to the one at the old Williams Grove amusement park, tho.. well, at least the guys that sell sports cards. That was the main reason I use to go.

Williams Grove flea market has definitely picked up. Also, I like wegmans and chick filet and target, so I'm not completely ssad that the market is gone.
