I am visiting my father in law and fiancee in the Shippensburg, PA area, and I have noticed there are a multitude of signs on the back roads that have "Entering xxx" with a blue and white WGAL-TV 8 sign below. Judging from the look of the font and nature of the signs, I would guess them to be from the 70s or even earlier. But if that is the case, it is amazing that so many of these signs still exist, and that they are in such good condition. Does any one know when these signs were put up? I hope PennDOT doesn't take them down...they are a certainly a jewel and a nice blast from the past that you don't see on today's high-tech computer generated logos.

I had forgotten how remarkable those signs seemed as an outsider. I still find them scattered far afield throughout the media market (see http://www.city-data.com/forum/harri...las-vegas.html ) and some look fairly new. If there is a story about their origin and continued maintenance I've missed it.

When I first moved to the Harrisburg area in 2009 one of the first things I noticed were the WGAL TV-8 signs at the entrance to every township around the metro area.

Here's a photo of one of the signs for those that don't know what we're speaking of.
