Ok, let's get the form out of the way first, then on to my situation.

When are you moving? Somewhere around Harrisburg/Middletown/Elizabethtown

Where are you coming from? Washington State

Why are you moving? My husband is retiring from the military and has landed a job.

Where will you be working? Husband will be working in Middletown

Have you been here yet? He has been in area twice on job interview, I have not

Will you buy or rent? We are looking to buy

If buying, are you looking for a house or a condo? How much can you spend? Single family detached house, $300,000 is my top. I would like to keep it around $275K

If renting, are you looking for an apartment, a townhouse or loft? How much can you spend? n/a

Do you prefer hi-rise or walk up? n/a

Are you married or single? Do you have children? Married. Four children. 20, 18, 16 and 9.

Do you prefer public or private schools? Public

Do you have pets? Yes, big dogs and an old cranky cat

Do you want or need a yard? Yes, need a yard. Would actually like at least an acre. We are retiring military, and have lived in military housing for way too long. I want some space to call mine.

Are you keeping a car? Yes, two

Do you prefer bustling activity or calm and quiet? Calm and quiet

What do you want to be closest to?
Work
Shopping
Medical

We are making a very short notice move to the Harrisburg area. The truck is taking all my household goods away tomorrow! I know nothing about the area! I have contacted a realtor and are pre-approved for our mortgage. We are leaving WA on Tuesday and driving to PA. We are a retiring military family and have been living in military housing for way too long. I would like some space to call my own. I'm looking for about an acre or more for the dogs to run and for my neighbors to NOT know what I am cooking for dinner.

I have an additional concern. My 9 year old has multiple disabilities and will need special education services. In our travels with the Navy we have learned that generalities regarding a school district often can not be applied to SpecEd. We have had really bad experiences in "great" school districts and amazing services in "bad" districts.

Does anyone have SpecEd advice regarding areas?

Thank you for any input anyone can offer!

We made it!

We actually ended up living in a hotel for a month while trying to find and close on a house. We looked all over and finally settled on Susquehanna Township. Love, love, love our home ('70's brick ranch on approx 1 acre) and our neighborhood. School is a work in progress. Our daughter is in school now but we are still tweaking the IEP. Staff seems receptive and will to learn about and help our daughter, but getting actual services on paper has been a bit of a struggle.

And Utz Cheese Curls are addictive.
