Default Perry County PA

Well we took a trip to Harrisburg this weekend, we liked Perry county, its rural and it seems to be less expensive than Dauphin county. We especially liked Duncannon and New Bloomfield. Does anyone have any input on these areas? We also liked Mechanicsburg but it seems to be alot more expensive. I will be starting the new job in 2 weeks any help would be great!! Thank you

Do you have kids? Duncannon is in the Susquenita School District, and they have very good schools - right along Route 15 just south of Duncannon.

Watch the flood zones in Duncannon and Newport Boroughs, about half of each is within the floodplain. The Appalachian Trail passes through Duncannon and the "thru-hikers" who walk 2000+ miles between Maine and Georgia in a year's time usually count Duncannon as the friendliest (or second to Damascus, VA) town they pass through. The US 22/322-PA 34 interchange near Newport is poised to become a retail hub once some infrastructure issues are resolved. The chains don't go into floodplains which is why they're not going to the Duncannon area. The hills in Penn Twp around Duncannon host several proposed new developments, so if you like the bucolic scenery now, be aware it may change.

We do not have children, thank you for the heads up on the possible scenary change. We just really like the quaintness of Duncannon and the people did seem very friendly. I will going to look at a house at 106 Ann st when I get there. I hope it is what we are looking for!!

How often does it flood in Duncannon, PA? And how many people lose their homes or have substantial damage due to this? Anyone know what the future holds climatically for Duncannon?
Also, if anyone knows about the systems set up for disabled children I would love to hear about it.

Calling residence of Duncannon, PA. How often does it flood there, and how many homes are affected by the floods?
Also would like to know any info someone might have on the systems/ assistance/benefits or however you want to word it, for children with disabilities-more specific mental and cognitive.

It floods periodically on the lower lying areas. There are services for people who have disabilities through a couple agencies. IIRC there is a waiting list currently however there are many homes available. Funding was recently cut. Lots of services and activities however and it's a great are overall for those specific needs.

In 1972 the flood was over the bar at the Doyle Hotel. Last year they were sandbagging the front door. Look for official flood maps (recently revised for Perry County) at the unfortunately not terribly user friendly web site https://msc.fema.gov/webapp/wcs/stor...rType=G&type=1
