Hi everyone just wondering what would be the best affordable cable and internet companies? Also which cell phone carrier is the best on the island Oahu? (Good reception, phones, plans, price) I will probably need an unlimited plan with internet also. Oh and I will be calling long distance to the mainland often. So just curious what carriers there are that is best. Thanks!

As to cable and internet, you are limited to Oceanic Time Warner for cable modem or Hawaiian Telcom for DSL unless you want to go with a satellite internet provider, which won't work with telephone service anyways.

As to cell phone providers, they are going to all be very similar in coverage and pricing and should all have free nationwide calling. Best bet is to figure out exactly where you will be living and check with the providers coverage maps, then go from there. If your work requires lots of phone calls, I would not rely upon cell phone service for great call quality. Use a VOIP solution thru your internet provider or get a real phone line thru the phone company.

I travel around Maui, Oahu and the BI. I seem to have the best success with Verizon for voice coverage.
I am still using an oldfashioned voice with messaging capability phone, and I don't know how Verizon or other companies perform with regard to new generation Andriod and I-Phone eqiupment.
