After 30+ years, I will be moving back to the BI next year with my husband. Can someone recommend a shipping company for our household goods? I know Matson gets mentioned a lot, but I'd like to get a couple of other quotes. We're in Portland. Will our stuff have to go to LA or Seattle first?
I also know the cost varies depending on how much you ship, but we only have about one large U-Haul sized truck worth of goods. Any ideas as to the cost?
My sister returned to the Islands this year and she had a problem with the moving guys from the shipper stealing cash from her (I don't know which shipper). Has anyone else run into this issue?
Any advice about shipping household goods would be appreciated!

Aloha .... moving to Portland from Big Island in the summer. Any suggestions for the most economical way to ship 20 boxes? About 60 lbs each, 24x17x17. Timing of their arrival is not an issue, well 2 months max. We will be grateful for all ideas, suggestions, connections on this matter. Sincerely, want off the rock!

If you need less then a container, I used Honolulu Freight Services to move household good from Seattle --> Oahu. They take your boxes, stack them on a pallet, measure dimensions and charge you for the space you take up. Think it was about $250 for a pallet full of goods about chest high back in summer 2007. (not sure how this equates if you need your goods to reach outer islands).

If
If possible you need to figure out how many cubic feet of goods you are shipping. A 20' container is the smallest they have going. We can ship that for you but you need to tell us if you are going to stuff the container yourselves and whether you can do it while th driver waits or do you want it dropped in your driveway and picked up again. If you have more than 15 linear feet of goods then I would recommend the container. All LCL items must be boxed or crated for shipping loose or on pallets.
American Worldwide Freight Services/Los Angeles
