Maybe this thread can be closed now, as the entire premise is now invalid. Or at least all readers should be redirected to the one about Killing Albezia pest trees; How-To.

For reference, see Hawaiian Paradise Park families dig out of enormous Iselle debri - Hawaii News Now - KGMB and KHNL , especially this quote:

"Tracy's home was filled with family when the storm hit. The first big albizia tree that came crashing down startled them -- and by the time the second one had fallen, they were crawling out their window into their cars with help from their neighbors.

"I think there were seven or eight trees on top of the house and you could just hear snapping trees every ten fifteen seconds," said neighbor Erik Biondo. "It was pretty shocking. The wind would come in waves, almost like an ocean set, so you could hear it down below and maybe four or five streets down and it would come over like a wave," Biondo described."

People on Kauai who were here for Iniki in 1992 talk about any new hurricane watches like it triggers some sort of PTSD. Respect.

Default Hurricane insurance in California

Anyone notice today's storm track for hurricane Norbert?

The probabilty track includes San Diego and LA.

They can rest comfortable without hurricane insurance.

Despite fact they are in proven hurricane alley, standard extended policy will cover.

By Monday morning, Norbert will be a tropical depression, and still not be anywhere near Southern California.

The water off of Southern California is very cold not really able to support catastrophic wind events like the one that just occurred off of the Big Island.
