With Maui slowly drifting into oblivian, especially Kihei where the building of new condos and homes has completely outpaced the infrastructure, Big Island sounds better and better. I even have plans drawn up for the house, pretty much what I described, just a bit larger. Outside of Hilo is very nice if you like the rain. Kolohe would know far better than I. The only problem with the Big Island is that it's so damn big!!!

Aloha and okolemaluna
That's an awesome price. I did find some stuff online about that subdivision, apparently it's the biggest. I am going to chekc it out.

Kolohe, what's the problem with the Big Island being so big?

For those who are looking for a change of pace from busy city life or Oahu traffic or who just prefer open space, no problem at all! I think I meant that more to say that, as compared to the other islands, Hawaii Island is big. It surprises first time visitors sometimes, especially if their frame of reference is a drive from Waikiki to the North Shore on Oahu. (I have a map that shows the Big Island 'in perspective' as compared to the other islands...PM me if you would like me to email the PDF file to you...)

On the other hand, for those who live in Hawaiian Paradise Park and have to drive to Kona or Waikoloa for work, the commute (round-trip) can take up to 5 or 6 hours from their day. For those who live in Hawaiian Ocean View Estates and have to face traffic to drive into Kona or have to drive through Volcanoes National Park to Hilo for work, the island feels big...

And for those who live in Hilo and want to spend a day at a white sandy beach, the drive takes about 2 hours. For me, a real change from Oahu.

But it is all a matter of perspective. I enjoy city life, but have never liked sitting in traffic for hours each day, so the Big Island suits me just fine since I can fly over to Oahu if I need a serious shopping fix or want to see a symphony or play!

I see what you mean. That doesn't sound for me to be honest. I don't really care about how much <space> there is, as long as there is some room for exploration and everything I need. That new ferry will give people an option anyway.
