Yea, but where else can you go snowboarding, boogeyboarding, surfing, swimming and snorkeling all on the same day? Been known to happen on the Bigger Island.

Well, I think most of that could occur in/around Phoenix. Up north (Snow bowl/Flagstaff area) about 2.5 hours drive is snow, (winters), lakes are within the fringes of the metro area (half hourish drive). Ocean is Mexico or San Diego/LA (hours-4-6). We also are within a short trip to Vegas. So, lots close by here too.

I hate the coqui frogs, they can make sleeping on a warm night, (like this one), impossible.

That doe's it, I'm moving to Scottsdale Az, first thing after I find a bottle of real Okolehao, and clear up the cannibalism problem over here. I'll bring the beef!!

What is Okolehao? No beef required, as per previous post. As a matter of fact, no beef ALLOWED. I have mentioned also that there are many drawbacks to living here, such as the 110+ heat daily for months on end, but just wanted to mention one other place where those opportunities are possible. Oh, and for the Hawaiian illiterate, what is Okolemaluna?

Sounds like my lawn guys. They start at the crack of dawn (I am a renter, so no choice here about that-plus if they don't start that early they may all die before job is done due to the heat). They are so loud that I only get 6 out of 7 nights of sleep a week. I bought some ear plugs. If you buy the higher grade ones, they really do work. Hope this helps. Aloha.

Feisty, you!
Now everyone has to go read all the other posts to figure this one out....
My vote for the thing I hate most: Add one for Junk Cars. It amazes me how many people let their property deteriorate for lack of a Saturday's worth of yard work and a trip to the dump. No excuses for it. Same for the "taggers". This place is too beautiful to let that kind of irresponsibility ruin it.

Okole= rear end, hao means several things, in this instance, "to kick". Okolemaluna means bottoms up, Cheers!

Okolehao was Hawaiian moonshine way way back. Sugar, rice and Ti root all fermented up and then distilled right here in the Islands. It could either be very good, or outright terrible. It was made commercially for years, although I don't know if it was a mainland outfit or local. Someone evidently was going to try and start making it here on Maui again, looks like the project never materialized, but wouldn't be a bad idea. Heck, if Hanalei Poi is now $7.00 per pound at Foodland, imagine what REAL Okolehao would go for. I may look into it, am a homebrewer myself, making a still wouldn't take much. Don't tell anyone!!! Promise I'll share........

The thing I really hate about Hawaii is that I wasn't a young man here in say 1920, 1930 or so. I know that sounds kind of silly, but I have a number of posters of Waikiki in the 1920's ,when the Ala Moana and Royal Hawaiian hotels were new, and the only hotels on the beach, must have been great. And right now I have a praying mantis and a gecko having a major league staredown on my lanai window, I may have to break this one up, pretty good sized praying mantis. Where else but in Hawaii?
